Tadvanam

A central highlight of Shivarathri Maholsavam 2023 was the Vagambhrunee Sukta Homam, a profound fire ritual based on the 125th hymn of the Rigveda’s 10th Mandala. This sacred hymn, focusing on self-realization, is a part of Tadvana Upasana practices. The ritual aimed to help participants transcend mental burdens and attain inner peace, paving the way for spiritual awakening.

The ritual incorporated specific offerings, each symbolizing a deeper significance:

• Ghee – Knowledge
• Sesame – Pleasing the forefathers
• Punarnava Grass – Prosperity
• Jungle Geranium – Attractiveness
• Honey – Sweetness of words
• Milk – Purity
• Banyan Bud – Health
• Samidha – Destruction of ego
• Cooked Rice – Destruction of karmic residue
• Coconut – Removal of obstacles

Suktas dedicated to Agni (Fire), Vayu (Air), and Indra (King of Gods) were chanted to invoke the support of divine forces. On this occasion, the Satyakama Vaidika Puraskaram was also presented.
