Tadvanam Ashramam confers the 2026 Sathyakama Vaidika Puraskaram on eminent Samaveda scholar

The Vedas convey uplifting ideals and do not promote hatred, discrimination or negative thought, said Dr. Thottam Sivakaran Namboothiri, an eminent Jaiminiya Samaveda scholar and Ayurveda physician, upon receiving the 2026 Sathyakama Vaidika Puraskaram from Tadvanam Ashramam. The award ceremony was held on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at the Ashramam’s Kanjirakadavu centre in Malampuzha, Palakkad, as part of the ongoing Durga Puja and Navaratri celebrations.

The award was conferred in recognition of his contributions to the preservation of Vedic traditions, the study and interpretation of Vedic knowledge, and the propagation of Advaita philosophy. The honour comprises a cash award of ₹10,001, a plaque, a Kashi shawl and a citation.

Instituted by Tadvanam Ashramam, the Sathyakama Vaidika Puraskaram recognises individuals who have made significant contributions to preserving and disseminating Vedic knowledge. Dr. Thottam Sivakaran Namboothiri is the third recipient of the award.

Preserving the Samaveda Tradition

Dr. Thottam Sivakaran Namboothiri has played a notable role in sustaining Kerala’s Samaveda tradition and is recognised for his scholarship in the Samaveda and his proficiency in its traditional mode of recitation. He has also served as Melsanthi at the Sree Krishna Temple, Guruvayur, and has undertaken the role of chief ritual officiant in several yajnas.

He continues to contribute to the transmission of Vedic knowledge through his service as an Acharya at the Thottam Subrahmanya Namboothiri Memorial Samaveda Pathasala, under the Raghavapuram Sabhayogam. His work places particular emphasis on preserving Kerala’s distinctive Samaveda recitation tradition and passing it on to future generations.

The first Sathyakama Vaidika Puraskaram, in 2023, was awarded to distinguished Vedic scholars Kadavallur Kothamangalam Vasudevan Namboothiri and Dr. Naras Ittravi Namboothiri. In 2024, the second award was conferred on Dr. V. Surendran Idakkidath, a renowned Sanskrit scholar and author.

Vedic Philosophy and Universal Well-being

In his acceptance address, Dr. Thottam Sivakaran Namboothiri appreciated Tadvanam Ashramam’s efforts to promote the Vedas and spiritual sciences. Emphasising the relevance of Vedic philosophy, he observed that its teachings did not encourage division or hatred, but instead upheld truth, dharma and the elimination of inequality.

He noted that the truths contained in spiritual sciences could be understood most simply by ordinary people and stressed the importance of building a society grounded in the values of truth and dharma envisioned by the Vedas. Such a society, he said, could help resolve the many problems confronting the world.

Congratulating the award recipient, Sri Jayakumar Ramakrishnan, head of Tadvanam Ashramam, said that individuals such as Dr. Thottam Sivakaran Namboothiri, who had dedicated their lives to Vedic philosophy and its preservation, served as important role models in contemporary society.
