Durga Puja and Navaratri Celebrations 2026
Tadvanam Ashramam organised Durga Puja and Navaratri celebrations from October 11 to October 21, 2026, at its centre in Kanjirakadavu, Malampuzha, Palakkad, following the traditional style of Kolkata's Durga Puja. The ten-day celebrations brought together devotees and seekers for worship, Vedic chanting, spiritual practices, cultural expressions, and community participation, centred on the worship of Sri Durga as Jagadamba.
A specially crafted Durga idol, made in Kumartuli, Kolkata, was brought to Palakkad and installed at the Ashramam for the Navaratri observances. The programme featured a series of traditional rituals and spiritual offerings, including Kumari Puja, Devi Mahatmyam Parayanam, Chandika Homam, Guruthi Puja, and Thayambaka. Devotional music, classical dance, and other cultural programmes further enriched the celebrations, bringing together religious traditions and cultural expressions.
A special highlight of the 2026 celebrations was Ekapanchashat Shakti Chaitanya Samanvayam, an initiative involving sacred soil collected from 51 Devi temples across Palakkad. The soil was ritually worshipped at the Navaratri mandapam of Tadvanam Ashramam, symbolising the spiritual unity of the region's Devi temples. The sacred soil was subsequently immersed in the Nila River as part of the concluding observances.
The Vijayadashami celebrations on October 21 began with Sri Lalitha Sahasranama Archana, performed by the Ashramam's head, Sri Jayakumar Ramakrishnan. The day's programme also included traditional purification rituals, Saraswatha Pushpanjali, book worship, and Vidyarambham, during which young children were introduced to learning through the ceremonial writing of their first letters under the guidance of Sri Jayakumar Ramakrishnan.
A special Annadanam was organised from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with approximately 300 people participating. The celebrations concluded with the ceremonial immersion of the Durga idol. Following ten days of worship, the divine presence invoked in the idol was ritually transferred to the sacred water of the Tadvanam Kalasam. This consecrated water was offered to the Nila River with prayers for universal well-being, followed by traditional concluding rites, including Avabhritha Snanam.
The 2026 Durga Puja–Navaratri celebrations reflected Tadvanam Ashramam's commitment to preserving traditional spiritual practices, celebrating India's cultural heritage, and fostering collective devotion and community participation.
